New technology brings with it new opportunities for the practice of our profession. However, this technology is also a double-edged sword in that it can also cause problems for our profession and those we serve. The Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists (3rd edition) provides a foundation for approaching the issues that can arise in its use. It is argued that psychologists need not wait for specific rules and guidelines regarding the ethical use of new technologies; rather, psychologists can utilize the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists immediately to address many of the issues involved. There is a wide range of areas in which ethical issues can arise. The focus in this paper is on three specific examples (online personal information accessibility, web-based advertising, and electronic data storage). These examples illustrate both the ethical issues involved and demonstrate the potential for how the Code can be used to think through and manage or resolve the issues. After a discussion of the three examples, the ongoing relevance of the Code to meeting the ethical challenges of continuously evolving technologies is discussed. This paper represents the contributions to the development of implicit procedures for solving the equations of fluid dynamics made by Briley and McDonald (1975)[1], Beam and Warming (1976, 1978) [2] and [3] and Lombard et al. (1983) [4]. The contributions of Briley and McDonald and Beam and Warming are well known, but Lombard has not been fully recognized for his innovative contributions to flux vector splitting and use of the DDADI (Diagonally Dominate Alternating Direction Implicit) algorithm. Their contributions are presented herein.Fully implicit algorithms are applied to two complex flow problems of current interest, (1) hypersonic non-equilibrium flow about a blunt nosed body and (2) flow within an MFD (magneto-fluid dynamics) accelerator. These two applications would be exceeding costly without the use of fully implicit methods.  相似文献

This paper examines the role of trait emotional intelligence (trait EI) in gamers’ preferences for play and frequency of gaming in a sample of 1051 young adult US/European gamers, who play frequently the online massively multiplayer game, World of Warcraft (WoW). Trait EI was shown to predict social and achievement preferences for play as well as frequency of gaming. In particular, trait EI was positively correlated to a preference for social practices per se and negatively correlated to a preference for achievement-oriented, instrumental practices. These findings advocate that gamers’ preferences for play are in accordance with their emotion-related personality characteristics. Trait EI was also negatively associated with frequency of gaming suggesting that lower scorers on trait EI are more likely associated with more frequent game use.  相似文献

The purpose of this project is the evaluation of Real-Time (RT) features of an aJ-80 embedded JAVA processor from aJile company. This product combines qualities of of high level programming language and RT feature in area of embedded applications. For any safety and critical embedded application is detailed specification of RT features very important. For this reason we have developed task examples which examine RT features of this processor and provide relevant results for evaluation of RT features. Implementation of the program code that enables digital filtration on aJ-80 processor is demonstrated on several examples. To ensure a correct processing of digital filtration we need a fastest calculation along with the greatest accuracy. Next, it is almost always necessary for the results to be available after the same time from the sample upload. These matters determine the digital filtration as a RT problem which is suitable for testing of the processor aJ-80 and its RT features. We also discuss results and provide their evaluation. Based on the evaluation, the performance of the hardware program of the processor aJ-80 is very effective. In this respect, the product is recommended to use in many hard RT areas.  相似文献

Does an electricity market which has been restructured to foster competition provide greater opportunities for demand response than a traditional regulated utility industry? The experiences of the restructured Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market over the past eight years provide some hope that it is possible to design a competitive market which will properly value and accommodate demand response. While the overall level of demand response in ERCOT is below the levels enjoyed prior to restructuring, there have nonetheless been some promising advances, including the integration of demand-side resources into competitive markets for ancillary services. ERCOT's experiences demonstrate that the degree of demand participation in a restructured market is highly sensitive to the market design. But even in a market which has been deregulated to a large degree, regulatory intervention and special demand-side programs may be needed in order to bolster demand response.  相似文献

The term gamification and gamified systems are a trending area of research. However, gamification can indicate several different things, such as applying the game-like elements into the design of the user interface of a software, but not all gamification is necessarily associated with software products. Overall, it is unclear what different aspects are studied under the umbrella of ‘gamification’, and what is the current state of the art in the gamification research. In this paper, 1164 gamification studies are analyzed and classified based on their focus areas and the research topics to establish what the research trends in gamification are. Based on the results, e-learning and proof-of-concept studies in the ecological lifestyle and sustainability, assisting computer science studies and improving motivation are the trendiest areas of gamification research. Currently, the most common types of research are the proof-of-concept studies, and theoretical works on the different concepts and elements of gamification.  相似文献

Computer-mouse work is characterized by repetitive movements combined with mental demands. The present purpose was to study how the body responded to simulated Computer Aided Design (CAD) work without memory demand and when a high short-term memory demand was introduced. Nine female subjects repetitively performed a task which involved 15 s of elevation of the right index and middle fingers followed by 6 s of rest. Every second time the fingers rested, the left index finger was required to type a six-figure number, either ‘123456’ (without memory demand) or a random number shown half a minute before (with memory demand). After 7 min of performing the task without memory demand, the memory demand was introduced and continued for 1 h. Introduction of memory demand resulted in increased heart rate (77 ← 84 beats/min), blood pressure (systolic 129 ← 140 mmHg; diastolic 72 ← 79 mmHg) and forearm extensor muscle activity (wrist, 2.7 ← 4.5% EMGmax; finger, 5.6 ← 7.5% EMGmax) and finger flexor muscle activity (0.7 1.2% EMGmax) indicating increased co-contraction. Hereafter, muscle activity and cardiovascular response tended to decrease. Self-reported stress and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) for the right shoulder increased throughout the period. Two additional sub-studies were inlcuded, which focused on adaptation to the physical load, showing a decrease in muscle activity and arousal, and reintroduction of the memory load, showing a lower response as compared to the initial response. The practical consequences of the findings suggest that job content should have variable mental demands.  相似文献
